History (Where we Began)

Starting out 18 years ago The Leonora Community Resource Centre (CRC) known back then as the Leonora Telecentre was situated in the Old Barns Federal Building on Tower Street. It catered for computer access and printing for Prospectors and Locals alike in a time when IT was in its infancy.

Working with a town committee and offering coffee, tea and a warm place for a chat during the colder months it soon became a place that was frequented by the Leonora community and visitors.

In 2005 the Leonora Telecentre was in the midst of a financial crisis. With the closing of its doors looming The Leonora Shire came to the Telecentre's rescue. Offering to aid and support the Telecentre for the Community while also helping to maintain and improve on its current services. The Councillors became the Telecentre's Committee and the Telecentre was saved.

The CRC moved to 69 Tower Street, next door to the Tourist Information Centre and Library 7 years after first setting up in the Old Barns Federal Building on Tower Street, before making their final move in 2017 to the Northern Goldfields Regional Office Administration Building, where it will continue to improve on current services being delivered and expand into other areas as required by the community.

A Coordinator is employed by the Shire of Leonora to manage the CRC's Services and to help facilitate the changes from a Telecentre to the current CRC, it has gone from strength to strength. Keeping up with new IT innovations and creating links within the Community and local Businesses, the CRC strives to meet and evolve with the changing community ensuring that it remains a vibrant and integrated part of Leonora.
